Residential Flat Roof Materials

EPDM, Felt or Liquid? Local Experts Helping Portsmouth & Surrounding Towns Choose.

Choosing the Right System

At Pallard Roofing, we are not tied to one manufacturer. We are experienced installers of all major flat roofing systems. This means we can give you honest, unbiased advice on which material suits your budget, your roof's shape, and your aesthetic preference.

EPDM Rubber Membranes

Best For: Longevity and large, simple roofs (like garages/extensions).

A synthetic rubber sheet that is glued to the deck.

It is flexible (moves with the building without cracking), UV stable, and often installed in a single piece, meaning no joints to leak. It has a life expectancy of 50+ years.

Brands: We use Firestone RubberCover and ClassicBond.

Torch-On Felt Roofing

Best For: Toughness and budget-friendly durability.

A 3-layer system (Vapour Control, Underlay, Mineral Cap Sheet) melted onto the roof with a torch.

Modern reinforced bitumen is incredibly strong, resistant to tears, and ideal for areas with foot traffic.

Brands: We use high-spec systems from IKO and Bailey.

Liquid Waterproofing

Best For: Overlaying existing roofs and difficult details.

A polyurethane coating painted onto the roof that cures to form a rubber-like skin.

It encapsulates everything—pipes, vents, and corners—without any seams. It is often used to extend the life of an existing roof without stripping it.

Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about our services and process.

Both are excellent choices. EPDM is more flexible, often installed in a single sheet with no seams, and has a longer lifespan of 50+ years. High-Performance Felt is budget-friendly and incredibly tough.
Not at all. Modern 'High-Performance Felt' is a world away from the old rag felt. It is reinforced with polyester, making it incredibly strong.
EPDM Rubber generally has the longest proven lifespan, often exceeding 50 years. High-Performance Felt typically lasts 15-20 years with proper maintenance.
Sometimes. Liquid Roofing is designed for this. However, we usually recommend stripping the old roof to check the timber deck's condition.
Yes. All the systems we install (EPDM, Felt, Liquid) meet current UK fire safety ratings for domestic roofs.
Felt usually comes in Green or Charcoal mineral finish. EPDM is standard Black/Dark Grey. Liquid systems can be finished in various colours.
Yes. We offer 15-25 year guarantees on labour and materials for all these systems.
